"Arab Home Cooking Specialty Restaurant Seven Hills" is a restaurant where you can enjoy authentic Arab cuisine prepared by Jordanian chef Ahmad. It opened in July 2020 in Kyotanabe City, Kyoto Prefecture.
In April 2022, the restaurant relocated to Kita Ward in Osaka City and introduced the Respo reservation ledger to achieve more efficient store operations.
This time, we spoke with Ahmad’s wife, Natsuko, about what led them to adopt the Respo reservation ledger, the support they received up to implementation, and the usability of the system.

An authentic Arabic restaurant whose dishes suit the Japanese palate
— What inspired you to start your own business?
I lived in Jordan for about six years with my husband, who is Jordanian and a chef. During that time, we often invited Japanese residents in Jordan to our home, where my husband served Arab dishes. The food was very well received, and I felt it would also suit Japanese tastes, so after our family returned to Japan, we decided to open our business.

—Which aspects of Arab cuisine do you think suit Japanese tastes?
Our restaurant mainly serves Jordanian dishes among Arab cuisines. Although we use spices, the food is not spicy; it’s healthy and easy to enjoy, featuring plenty of vegetables and legumes.
Not only is all the food we serve 100% halal, we also offer vegetarian, vegan, and wheat-free menu options.
— What kind of customers use your services?
In addition to people who work at nearby offices or live in the neighborhood, we welcome a wide variety of visitors, including Muslim Arabs, Indonesians, and Malaysians. Recently, the number of tourists from Turkey and Western countries has also been increasing, along with Arab tourists.
Introducing a reservation ledger that prevents missed bookings and can be managed automatically
— Around when did you start considering implementing a reservation management system?
After relocating to Osaka, we began looking into several companies that offer systems for managing reservations online.
However, since we had just relocated, we had no idea how much sales we could expect going forward, and we also didn’t want to increase our fixed costs, so at the time we gave up on introducing it.
For about a year after that, we managed reservations by having customers either submit a booking request via the Google Form on our official website or make a reservation directly by phone, and when a reservation was confirmed, we entered it into Google Calendar.
— After that, what led you to consider implementing the Respo reservation ledger?
With reservation management using Google Forms, a reservation is not confirmed at the time the customer submits the reservation request; the shop must first check availability and then reply by email.
However, when we were busy, there were times we couldn’t reply right away or missed some messages. Also, since we operate with a small team of just two or three people, there were times during busy periods when we couldn’t answer the phone and ended up causing inconvenience to our customers.
So when we once again started considering implementing a reservation management system, we learned about the existence of the Respo reservation ledger.
— What prompted you to decide to introduce the Respo reservation ledger?
The fact that there was no monthly usage fee was a major factor. Since reservations can be managed automatically without any oversights, we felt confident using it and decided to implement it.

Yes. The setup materials you sent in advance were easy to understand, and the online meeting we had before implementation cleared up any questions I had. I was able to start using it right away on the same day as the meeting, which I really appreciated.
Even after implementation, whenever we make inquiries, they respond politely and promptly, which has been a great help.
— After introducing the Respo reservation ledger, what kind of changes have you seen?
Since we no longer have to manually check reservations as we used to, things have become much easier both time‑wise and mentally, and I feel reassured because the mistakes are gone as well.
--- How easy is the Respo reservation ledger to use?
It’s simple and intuitive to use, and the specifications have been improved so it’s easy to use not only on the iPad but also on iPhones with smaller screens, which has been a big help. Our part-time staff also seem to be using it without any issues for checking reservations and entering information.

— Are you doing anything in particular to encourage people to make reservations online?
We add links to our official website on accounts like Facebook, Instagram, and LINE, and from there we create a flow that lets customers make reservations through our store page on AutoReserve. Thanks to this, many customers are using online reservations to visit our store.
— Finally, could you tell us about your goals for the shop going forward?
I want to share the appeal of Arab cuisine with more people.
In the future, we’d also like to introduce Respo self-ordering to aim for even more efficient store operations.
