"Tempura Dining Saku" in Kani City, Gifu Prefecture is a restaurant where you can enjoy stylish lunches and Japanese sake, known for its commitment to quality ingredients and its cozy, at-home atmosphere. After opening in March 2022, they had been managing reservations using another company’s booking system, but in October 2023 they switched to the Respo Reservation Ledger. "The Respo Reservation Ledger is very user-friendly and really great," says the owner, Mr. Ichihashi, with a smile. We asked him about the reasons for switching from another service and the impact it has had on running the restaurant.

— Please tell me about your shop.
We want tempura, which often has a high-end image, to be something you can casually say, “Let’s go eat tempura.” While carefully selecting our ingredients, we offer meals you can enjoy at reasonable prices.
— What is the approximate age range of the customers who visit your store?
Most of our customers are in their 30s to 60s. Since there are few places nearby that serve authentic Japanese cuisine, some customers even come from outside the prefecture in search of delicious tempura.
— What prompted you to consider implementing the Respo reservation ledger?
Since opening my business, I have been using another company’s reservation management system and have really come to appreciate the convenience of online booking.
However, because that system was not designed for restaurants and made it difficult to set up menus on the reservation screen and operate the system, we began considering a switch and decided to introduce Respo Reservation Ledger, which is specialized for restaurants.

— How is it going after switching to the Respo reservation ledger?
Since our shop has a large number of menu items, being able to easily add and change them ourselves has really reduced the stress we feel when using the interface.
Also, when it’s hard to explain your problem over email, they can help you over the phone as well. The service I used before only handled inquiries by email, so now I can easily clear up any questions I have, which has been a big help.
You always reply to my inquiries, and you respond so quickly that I really appreciate it.
— Did everything go smoothly up until you actually started operating it?
Yes. They followed up carefully through online meetings and such, and since I could operate it not only from my computer but also from my smartphone, I was able to proceed easily without feeling burdened.
Overall, it’s very easy to use, and all the aspects of online reservation management that I previously found difficult have now been completely resolved.
Also, since we have opportunities like this interview to share our everyday impressions and opinions, I don’t really ever think about switching to another company.

Within two months of introduction, 40% of bookings are now made online, including by seniors who use smartphones.

— How do you make use of the Respo reservation ledger?
On the course reservation screen, we also include notes about the time and number of people, and we have set it up so that customers can make a reservation only after agreeing to these terms.
Dishes that include sashimi especially depend on freshness and can’t be kept until the next day, so being able to order ingredients based on the number of online reservations has been a big help.
— How have your customers been reacting?
We only just introduced it, but already around 40% of our customers are using online reservations through AutoReserve.
Most of our customers are repeat visitors, and these days many elderly people also have smartphones, so they can easily make reservations from their phones, which we really appreciate.
— What kind of strategies are you using to encourage online reservations?
We’ve set it up so that users can navigate to the AutoReserve booking page from the official website and Instagram.
We also use Google Business Profile to add a booking link to our Google profile, creating a smooth path so that people who search can easily get to the reservation page.
I also feel it’s important to create a system that makes it easy for customers who have looked up our shop to make a reservation.

We want to improve operational efficiency through online reservations so we can focus more on customer service.

— How would you like to make use of the Respo reservation ledger from now on?
In the future, I’m considering narrowing the menu down to just one option, such as a slightly higher-priced course meal, and accepting reservations only through online booking. By doing so, I believe preparations like purchasing ingredients and pre-cooking will go more smoothly, allowing us to focus more on customer service.
Of course we want you to enjoy delicious meals, but we also hope to provide service that makes our guests feel truly special.
— Finally, could you tell us about your goals for the shop going forward?
There aren’t many yet, but we do have some customers visiting us from overseas.
With inbound demand on the rise, I believe it will be increasingly important to create systems that are easy to understand and use for our foreign customers as well.
I’d like to create an appealing restaurant so that not only do foreign visitors come here just to visit tourist spots, but they also choose to come to our place specifically to enjoy delicious food.
